8. Because 8 is great...

And because you are great. Right now. Today. I don't need years to go by to realize the good qualities that hopefully lie in waiting for you. You are walking them out as we speak. Sometimes a struggle though many times just naturally who God made you to be, along with things you've already placed in His hands and allowed Him to do a work in. I love that about you. You are responsive, to me and Dad, but especially to the Lord. You are loyal and faithful and so badly just want to please everyone, most of all, Him. He loves that about you.

You came at just the right time. I couldn't imagine our world without you. I am so, so glad God knew better (the best!) than we ever thought we could.

His gifts are good all.the.time.

You are that gift to me every day of my life.

I initially panicked as I thought I had no good pictures of just you. While I actually don't have many good ones of only you, I couldn't have been more wrong! These are precious to me because this is my Asher. Who you are carries with you wherever you go, even pictures! My heart bursts as I look at you through these and realize, again, how special you really really are. What a sweet sweet boy you are.

Always working hard and diligently with a younger sibling by your side, though never too busy to stop and show love and affection. Always thinking about others and making sure they are the ones having the best time. Loving Jesus enough to hand over many fears. He has really pulled through for you hasn't He!? Giving. Selfless. Joyful. Again. And again. And again. Faithful. You are a faithful child of God and He is pleased with you!

Your journal to be had someday when older. I picked this up for you when you were 6 months old and have been writing in it here and there over these years. I will remember you like this always, my blond haired, always giving hugs, sweet little boy.

Love, Me

the 13th of another November...

These pictures are very dear to me as they accurately describe you, Liam. All in. 110%. Full of life. Energetic. That never ending sparkle in your eyes. Always thinking. Always ready to be there. Larger than life personality.

There is never a guessing game with you, Liam. You wear your heart and emotions for all to see. I have really come to appreciate that in recent years and see it as a gift in shepherding you.

I do call you my free spirit. It's just who you are. So as much as we can, we try to let you fly. Your spirit is really precious to me and I hope and pray the Lord only keeps growing my heart for you as a boy who will one day be a man, and a really funny and passionate one at that! There's just too much to love about you!

5 years old. My Liam Oliver...

ponderings for a season

I'm not sure exactly what the Lord is doing through our endeavors these days. I know He remains faithful and there is rest for the weary. I know He blesses in abundance, and I know this to be true even now. I am certain I will look back on these days (and years) and wonder how I even did them, but right now, in the present, I can't help but really love and even treasure them. And I know that to be a sole work on His part that I am choosing to embrace. Because let's be honest...some days NOBODY takes a nap and it's a good week before I really touch base with Gabe, sometimes longer.

While I know big things are at work, I couldn't ever articulate what specifically. There is still much excitement and insurmountable peace to be building something with my husband aside from just these four walls, which is still very much my biggest role in this endeavor; the home front. I do know my children are growing and soaking up everything, and we talk deep things, and sometimes our conversations last a really long time. School has been more of tying heart strings, getting our hands dirty, and long hours of putting the time in because I know in my heart now is the time for such things. Never wishing to go back, but rather making it count. Wanting this foundation as strong as it can be to withstand through time and turbulence and tests. Asher calls me several times a day, if at work with Gabe, to say he loves me and misses me. Gabe is happy Asher so very naturally gets my love language in the 'little' things. It must be Asher's too.

I still remain this enormous work in progress, constantly being refined and sought hard after. Molded over, edges smoothed. What a love story. He's not just calling me to be a big girl these days, He's calling me to new places in Him, for His glory. He gently leads beside still waters and everything with Him in is abundance. How could I be lacking right now? Just the opposite. Look who leads me!

Faithful, unmoved, unshaken by me is what I bask in from Him these days. He helps me see my children as He does, really precious and quirky! Full of potential in Him. Called. Funny. Really really funny. Beautiful. Special. He is binding and fashioning me with them in a way that clearly was needed, but because He's faithful to do it. I love that.

I am ever thankful for a mom, my mom, who never put pressure or undeserved weight on things that truly didn't matter, but rather, put it where it really belonged. There she was taking care of us kids, living a quiet and simple life (something I find myself challenged as to what that means and should look like in this day and age with social media outlets, and although I'm not opposed to most, I do wonder what and how much is too much, and honestly?...what would my mom do?), loving my dad with abandon who worked long and grueling years building a company from the ground up, serving us, serving others, loving Jesus, the opposite of materialistic in every way (she wasn't into things or acquiring more and she embodied and lived out for me the very definition of content in all seasons of life. My father knew he found a gem in her because of it, he often said so!), always welcoming, laughing (a lot), patient, simple, kind, quiet, joyful, strong, consistent... always. And from the time I was just a little girl I knew who she really looked to for her strength and joy and worth. Dad was funny and one of the best, but we all knew it was God.

I'm so thankful for the footsteps to see in the sand and follow hard thereafter simply by her example. There just aren't many like it! A living, breathing, tangible expression of how to live these very days. It never has spoken to me quite like this all of my prior existence. Maybe it's been preserved for such a time as this, the season being now. What a gift I have just been relishing in! Truly and madly!

Thank you Mom. Your life speaks to me every day in some kind of way, and I want to be like you when I grow up!

live to the hilt...

I want to remember these days and nights, not because this is who I am or where my identity lies. I am so thankful I live for more than anything this world has to offer and even the blessings I have received from Him. Rather, I have become accustomed to living very much in the present. Maybe it's the season of life. It sure is a busy one and demanding and today carries enough weight of its own. I am finding myself truly and deeply thankful as I find it aids immensely in living in and out the very will of God for my life today. I woke up this morning and I had many things to do. Many things to be. Wife. Mother. Housekeeper. Cook. Sister. Friend. Bring kids here. Get hubby out the door. Get kids packed up for school out.

But what I'm challenged to remember first and foremost is that I awoke with yet another new day to sing of His glories and to live my life for Him, first as a daughter of the King. It just so happens to look like that through lots of poop, a messy house, hungry mouths to feed, fresh coffee to brew (not for myself) and little hearts who love and simply adore me, looking to me for their everything right now.

I only hope and pray this deep down in my core...

"Wherever you are, be all there! Live to the hilt every situation you believe to be the will of God."

Oh I believe it! Here I awoke! And what I awoke to. And now? I live it. What's even more beautiful? He gives the grace to do just that, because I know and trust He has called me to great and mighty things in Him.

The 50 lb bag of oats that has been sitting here now for over a month awaiting its proper place in the basement? I actually like what has become of it while I take from it every now and then within a couple step's reach.

Nights with this lively bunch.

Two boys who love to help peel anything. Garlic it is.

And lunch together just the two of them.

Dinner with my favorite people. Just missing the man of the house.

No dinner clean up for me these days. HALLELUJAH! I'll take this view instead!

First Friday school. And the cutest little slim/skinny jeans for Sophia. Her request.
